As per an advisory released by the Department of Education announcing the opening of classes for Academic Year 2017-2018, Kalayaan National High School orderly welcomed its Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) students on June 05, 2017, after a week-long preparation through the annual Brigada Eskwela participated by various stakeholders who contributed time, effort and resources in making the school more conducive to learning.
School Principal, Mrs. Emilia L. Tolentino, with the help of the newly-promoted Assistant Principals, Dr. Mark Anthony F. Familaran and Ms. Maria Garde B. Cleofe, for JHS and SHS respectively, spearheaded the said opening of classes which was monitored by Schools Superintendent, Dr. Evangeline P. Ladines, CESO VI. Concurrently, AY 2017-2018 marks the complete roll out of the SHS program which added two years to the basic education curriculum.
As of June 05, 2017, 1783 students were enrolled in Senior High School while 1,162 were present in the Junior High School in KNHS.
To gear up with the full implementation of this curriculum reform, the school introduced Information and Communications Technology (ICT), as one of its strands adding to the existing offerings of KNHS-SHS namely: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) under the Academic Track, and Technical-Vocational-Livelihood or TVL.
Subsequently, catering to the growing number of SHS students of the school is a newly-installed and constructed building which was built for Academic Track students. Building A on the other hand is intended for the TVL strand. During the Brigada Eskwela, Baker and McKenzie (B&M) Global Services adopted the facilities of SHS which focused on the upgrading of the Integrated STEM Laboratories.
